How It Works

At Empower Kids, every initiative meets an important need for those living in South Sudan.

  • What it is

In South Sudan archaic taboos have created a culture with limited knowledge regarding menstruation. It isn’t uncommon for girls to be left outside, alone and feeling ashamed, during their periods. EKSS has partnered with DfG to address the unique challenges associated with managing menstrual cycles and to distribute DfG Kits and access to quality menstrual health education.

  • Why it’s important

Women and girls of all ages should be taught to manage their periods safely, with confidence and dignity. By providing these solutions, EKSS and DfG help ensure young girls will not miss school, women will not miss work, and each of them will have the ability to reach their full potential.

  • What’s next

This initiative is currently operating at the Juba Girls School, where the all-female population can embrace it without shame or embarrassment. The hope is to reach 700 schools in South Sudan as others begin to emulate our efforts with menstrual health care reach Every Girl. Everywhere. Period.
